Maths Pilot Undergraduate Teacher Degree Apprenticeship
On this page you will find information directly linked to the Maths Teacher Degree Apprenticeship (TDA) Pilot. Other TDAs will become available for other subjects and in other phases in due course. More information about TDAs can be found here.
The University of Staffordshire, supported by SSTEC, the Stoke and Staffordshire Teacher Education Collective, have been names as one of only eight providers to be awarded pilot status for the new Maths Teacher Degree Apprenticeship.
The DfE are supporting the pilot and these slides outline the DfE’s ambition. Kate Dale, the Course Director, outlines the Maths TDA in this short video.
One of the advantages of being on the pilot programme is that the DfE will fund up to 40% of the salary costs for 25 apprentices. Information about the DfE’s support can be found here.
Colleagues will need to be employed for four years on the unqualified teacher salary. They will also need to benefit from the expertise of a school-based mentor as well as complete the academic expectations of the degree programme.
The degree modules will form part of the 40% ‘off-the-job’ training and applicants will be expected to demonstrate that they have studied maths a Level 3 (A-Level equivalent study). Whilst employed in school, apprentices will gradually build up their teaching over the four years, commencing with support type roles.
More about the programme can be found here.
Applications are now open. If you have colleagues or Sixth Formers, or you know of career changes in your communities (you might want to include this opportunity in your newsletters), please ask them to visit the University of Staffordshire website.
Kate has outlined the application process here.
We are looking forward to welcoming both employers and apprentices to this innovative and exciting programme. For further details, please contact Becky Parsons, ITT Co-ordinator, tsh@painsley.staffs.sch.uk
