Our background

In February 2021, we were designated as one of only 87 Teaching School Hubs nationally, serving Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire Moorlands, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stafford.  The school is also one of only 40 National Maths Hubs in the country and a Behaviour Hub and Language Hub.  The Golden Thread Teaching School Hub is based at Painsley Catholic College Sixth Form in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The Hub has links with local schools across a wide area, covering the Moorlands, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent.Teacher

We hold recruitment and information events throughout the year in partnership with other local providers, universities and SCITTs (school-centred initial teacher training). Please email LBU@painsley.staffs.sch.uk (Louise Bullock, Administrator for The Golden Thread Teaching School Hub) to be added to our mailing list or follow us on social media:

Whether you have just finished a degree or have been working in a different sector for many years, this route enables you to learn to teach, whilst actually working in a school. The focus is on maximizing the time you spend in school, giving you a realistic insight into teaching and the rewards in supporting young people in their academic and pastoral life.

Our programme overview:

  • The quality of our relationships with our schools and colleges is extremely high and is based on a shared vision of teaching and a genuine partnership. We know our partnership schools very well and they know us. This means that we can match your development needs with your school placements.
  • We have a wide outreach into some 50 plus high performing schools within the local Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire area and beyond.
  • To give you experience in the classroom, you will spend at least 120 days working in two local secondary schools focusing on teaching KS3 and KS4, as well as visiting a local primary school and experiencing post 16 education (possibly in one of your secondary placements). Our school led programme provides support at the university whilst also challenging your thinking about learning and teaching.
  • Each of your two main placement schools will also have a professional mentor who will provide an introduction to the organisation of the school, the school curriculum, pastoral care, personal and social education, active tutorial work, student behaviour and the legal and social framework of the school.

As a consortium, we aim to provide high quality, school-based initial teacher training. We believe our provision ensures trainees feel fully prepared for life in the classroom and a career in education. The schools work closely with the partner universities and SCITTs in the hub area to ensure that our trainees gain their Teaching Qualification giving them qualified teacher status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

All our staff are exceptionally skilled and passionate practitioners and you are welcome to contact us to discuss your chosen career – just email us for further information: REP@painsley.staffs.sch.uk

Applications for 2024-2025 open from 10th October 2023 through DfE Find Teacher Training. The deadline for applications will be during the summer term 2024.

If you are successful, we recommend you join The Chartered College of Teaching. This is the professional body for teachers, who aim to bridge the gap between practice and research and to equip teachers from the second they enter the classroom with the knowledge and confidence to make the best decisions for their pupils.
